About the Tasmanian Planning Scheme

Tasmania's planning system runs on a single state-wide instrument — the Tasmanian Planning Scheme (TPS) — gazetted under the Land Use Planning and Approval Act 1993. Each of the 28 transitioned councils overlays the state-wide TPS with its own Local Provisions Schedule (LPS) specifying the zones, codes and overlays applying.

Each property has a zone, any number of code overlays (Bushfire-Prone, Coastal Inundation, Coastal Erosion, Local Historic Heritage, Scenic, Significant Tree, etc) and one or more general overlays.Kingborough is still on the legacy Kingborough Interim Planning Scheme 2015 — our snapshot handles both schemes automatically.
